West Coast and Saubermacher AG partner to launch innovative waste collection techniques in Abu Dhabi
West Coast Cleaning & Environmental Services Company (West Coast), a service provider in the domestic solid waste industry has recently partnered with the Austrian company, Saubermacher AG to start a combined registered company in the UAE that will start field work with the Centre of Waste Management to offer innovative waste collection techniques and solutions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. West Coast has been providing non-hazardous solid waste collection services for commercial, municipal, industrial and residential customers in more than 500 locations throughout the UAE while minimizing environmental impact. It’s partnership with Saubermacher AG which is responsible for about 1600 municipalities and over 40,000 global customers with more than 35 operating joint ventures in Central Europe is scheduled to begin during the second half of this year or the beginning of next year.
Services and solutions include solid waste volume reduction, high-pressure cleaning machine for large surfaces, adoption of green supply chain principles, installing the Saubermacher Logistics Optimization System (LOTUS) and implementing the Internal Waste Transfer Station (IWTS [AM1]) near Al Bahia in Shahama region. “Our services are sufficient, effective and timely utilizing state-of-the art vehicles, equipped with latest GPS technology for waste collection, street sweeping and waste transportation,” said Deeb Abu-Dalo, project manager, West Coast. The solid waste volume reduction will reduce solid waste volume at the source and prevent materials from entering the waste stream. Segregating waste at the source and compacting it will reduce the volume of waste entering the landfill, thereby extending its life. The company shall also use high-pressure cleaning machines for cleaning road surfaces and remove road markings with rotation jets, high-pressure pumps and suction fan, tank that can be tilted to the back for emptying. The hydraulically driving device allows selection of driving speed between 0 and 8 km/hr independent of the engine speed, the equipment for cleaning large surfaces with rotation jets is mounted in front of the driver’s cab combined with a suction unit to exhaust the cleaned surfaces dry at the same time.
The cleaning process will adopt green supply chain principles to ensure maximum sustainability in processes as well as lowest possible emissions in operation that is achieved through minimizing the de-loading transportation and implementing special transportation equipment whose combined trail system can save up to 1,000 kilometres per day of ‘travelling to the landfill’ and doubling the service quality. The internal waste transfer station will install the basic sorting and recovery process for ferrous metals and various recyclables instead of landfilling them. The station will also serve as the ‘public awareness centre’ to be used for education of school classes, interested persons and guests of CWM. The company will also increase its workforce by employing skilled and qualified people with degrees in Environmental studies and Engineering.
