GEMS UtilEco: Holistic approach to wastemanagement and resource recovery
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) with its high oil reserves is one of the fast developing economies in the Middle East. But along with its strong industrial and economic growth there is a parallel increase in the volume of waste being generated. There is an urgent need to improve its infrastructure and facilities, particularly waste management and water resource management. Having realised that environment and sustainability can no longer be just add-ons in the scheme of things the Saudi government, through the Presidency for Meteorology & Environment (PME), is now making stringent its legislation in the context of the environment which also encompasses the waste management industry.
