Sorting out plastics recovery
Industry opinion in the Middle East currently
suggests there is an insufficient supply of
recycled plastic materials that are of high
enough quality to be reused. However,
research figures suggest that the resource
is available - the United Arab Emirates is
reported to lead the world in per capita
consumption of bottled water, and plastic is
known to account for 19 percent of domestic
waste in Abu Dhabi City. As has been
demonstrated in the West, large quantities of
valuable recyclables can be recovered from
the waste stream at the quality the market
demands.
