The Unsung City Cleaning Heroes Awards have been instituted to recognise the dedicated services provided by the outdoor cleaning staff in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Middle East Cleaning Technology Week (MECTW) had launched this first-of-its-kind initiative in the region in 2015. This year, the awards were presented to the best outdoor cleaning staff, including street cleaning and waste management staff working at various municipalities across the UAE including Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.
The Unsung City Cleaning Heroes Awards ceremony was held on November 7, 2017. The awards, including a certificate and cash prize of Dh1500, were presented to 20 best city cleaning staff nominated by different municipalities and waste management authorities.
Dulsco was the Lead Sponsor, having supported the awards for 14 winners from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. The awards for Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah city cleaning staff were sponsored by Bee’ah and Ras Al Khaimah Waste Management Agency respectively.
The awards were presented by S. Madhumohan, Director, Environmental Solutions, Dulsco; Vinesh Menon, Deputy General Manager-Operations, Dulsco; Sonia Nasser, Technical Director, Ras Al Khaimah Waste Management Agency; and Abdullah Ahmed Sammour, Area Manager, Bee’ah.
It was a poignant moment for the winners including Mohammed Mammon Alrasheed, Shiekh Abdulsathar and Mijan Mia Shiddiqur Rahman at Dubai Municipality; Hameed Khan Abdul Samad, Dulsco, Dubai; Mohammed Hakim Miya and Palani Muniya Nayakkar at Veolia, Abu Dhabi; Caroline Claire Delmas and Emma Salvador Casanas at Lavajet, Abu Dhabi; Usman Konaje Ibrahim and Mizanur Rahman at Dulsco, Fujairah; Pintu Hozrot Ali and Mohamed Baber at Dulsco, Umm Al Quwain; Mohammad Zinna Shaik, Padam Paudel, Ram Sebak Yadav and Bijendra Kumar Sah at Bee’ah, Sharjah; Masud Alhaz Md Shaha Alam and Muhammad Ijaz at Dulsco, Ajman; as well as Manidur Rahman Naimuddin and Hanif Sna Miah at Ras Al Khaimah Waste Management Agency.
